The Spanish rider looking for a points finish at Jerez.

Nacho Calero (CIA Insurance Honda) started his 2014 World Supersport campaign on a good note by scoring his first points in the series at Phillip Island. The young Spaniard then had a difficult time in the following rounds and his performance was further affected by an injury sustained at Donington Park.

Back to full fitness, Calero now aims for a strong result this weekend in his home round, as he told WorldSBK.com about his hopes for the race at Jerez de la Fronter.

What happened after Phillip Island?

“We started off well, my feeling with the bike was great already during the official test at Phillip Island. From there onwards we had many suspension and setup issues. Things got worse when I injured myself at Donington Park.”

“I was forced to use painkillers for several races as at one point an x-ray I did showed that I had a sprained AC-joint. It took a while to recover from that but now I’m back to full fitness, so the goal now is to get back to the kind of form I showed in Australia.”

Can Jerez, your home race, represent a further boost to do well?

“It’s always special to race in front of your home crowd, especially after such a difficult season. My shoulder was fine already at Portimao but we had a different type of problems there (with the new engine).”

Now that the injuries are in the past, what is the goal for the final leg of the season?

“I think we can be in the points, but the goal at Jerez is to score a top-10 finish. We need to do well because it’s a track I know from my 125cc PreGP times. We are working hard and we need to finish the year on a high.”
